Transport networks for cartographic purposes are a refined data product comprising 2 object types — one for the road network and one for the rail network.
The object types are generated from a number of already existing data products for road and rail networks.
The data products included from the National Railway Database (NJDB) are: Infrastructure Manager, Railway Bridge, Track Head/side, Track Up/Down/Single, Tunnel and Status railway network. Other railway data product included is the Swedish Transport Administration’s track facility
The network in the NJDB comprises all track facilities managed by infrastructure managers and track holders authorised by the Swedish Transport Agency.
At present, NJDB does not include metro and tramway
The data products included from the National Road Database (NVDB) are: Functional road class, road traffic network, Road number, Street name, Other road name and Bridge and tunnel. Other road data products included are road category and road type. The NVDB road network includes roads, streets, squares and other routes or places commonly used for motor vehicle traffic. Tractor roads are generally not included.
In addition, roads intended for cycling are covered. In addition, roads intended for walking may be included.
Ferry routes for car traffic are classified as a car network while ferry routes that do not take cars but can take bicycles are classified as bicycle networks.
Objects with identical attribute set are aggregated within the object type to achieve more coherent lines that facilitate cartographic representation. Otherwise, objects are not generalised with respect to geometry.
The data product is intended for universal cartographic representation of road and rail networks at various scales on e.g. topographic maps. There are no individual road or rail data products that can be used directly to represent roads and railways in a way that corresponds to a normal representation in topographic maps.
Normal representation in topographic maps refers, for example, to things such as some kind of hierarchical division of roads and railways, tunnels and underpasses, and that different types of networks (e.g. bicycle networks and car networks) can be distinguished.
The data product shall also be able to meet selection needs for different scales.
The data product is not suitable for road number labels because the data product contains only host road numbers. Road number for guest roads is not included. However, the data product can be used as a basis for street names.
The data is provided via order to the Swedish Transport Administration: [email protected].
