The State Archaeological Service of Fribourg (SAEF) manages the buried and built cantonal archaeological heritage. These data represent, in the form of polygonal surfaces, the archaeological perimeters of protection and the archaeological perimeters recorded in the territory of the canton of Fribourg. The perimeters of protection contain evidenced remains whose archaeological importance justifies placing under protection. The identified perimeters are delimited on the basis of observed archaeological remains or evidence of the presence of remains. As the local development plans (LAPs) are revised, the archaeological protection perimeters and identified are updated and postponed to the Area Allocation Plans (PAZs). The dynamic update on this map portal is daily. For any new construction or modification of existing buildings, as well as for any change in the current state of the land, within a protected area or in an identified archaeological perimeter, the applicant must contact the SAEF in advance. The SAEF shall then carry out an impact assessment giving rise to notice. It is recalled that archaeological exploration throughout the Fribourg territory, in particular by means of metal detectors, is subject to authorisation by the SAEF. Offenders are exposed to denunciation to the competent authorities and are liable to a fine of up to 5,000 francs. The observations made on the ground by the collaborators of the Archaeological Service of the State of Fribourg (SAEF) during monitoring of sites, surveys, excavations or prospectings give rise to proposals for new archaeological perimeters. These proposals are studied by the Archaeology sector of the territory, in charge of the management of these data, during the creation of new archaeological perimeters. They are therefore polygonal surfaces for internal use of the SAEF for the creation and historicisation of new archaeological perimeters.
