The medical statistics of the hospital establishments report on an annual basis all cases of hospitalisation in hospitals and clinics in Switzerland. The detection includes the diagnoses and treatments of all patients. In order to be reprocessed, the data are encoded through two medical classifications: ICD-10-GM for diagnosis and CHOP for treatments. The codification of diagnosis and treatment is subject to precise directives. The UST Medical Classifications and Coding Sector draws up, reviews and, if necessary, adapts these directives, deals with the maintenance of the above-mentioned classifications and offers advice to persons in charge of coding. This publication was drawn up on the basis of the 2021 version of the ICD-10-GM systematic index in Italian and on the basis of the translation of the ICD-10-GM 2022 published by the Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte (BfArM). The ICD-10-GM-2022 enters into force in Switzerland on 1 January 2022. The publication is available in two languages (French and Italian) and in different formats (PDF, CSV, ClaML and paper version). PDF, ClaML and CSV formats can be downloaded directly from the UST website.
