A protected forest according to federal criteria is a forest that can protect a damage potential recognised by the federal government against an existing natural hazard or reduce the associated risks. The map “Protective forest from natural hazards” covers 704 hectares of forest. This corresponds to 5.6 % of the forest area of the canton of Schaffhausen. The elimination of protected forests from natural hazards is binding on the authorities. It can be found in the cantonal guideline and in the forest function plans of the municipalities.
