Dataset description

Settlement development inwards (SEin) is an important goal of spatial planning, also in the canton of Bern. Poorly used building zones, building gaps and settlement sites are to be built over, or more optimally used, before new building land is developed or even re-zoned. Cities and villages should no longer grow at their edges, but develop within the existing settlement area. As a result, the sprawl can be slowed down and the cultural land and landscape can be spared. The canton provides the municipalities with a ‘basic set’ of data that serve as a basis for processing the task SEin according to A_07. The SEin-related data consists of information derived from the GWS (Building and Housing Statistics) of the Federal Statistical Office (BFS).
