Dataset description

Nature forest reserves in the Canton of Zurich are forest areas secured by contracts for many years, in which care is largely avoided (type MCPFE1_2) in order to leave them to natural aging and decay processes. This increases the proportion of old and dead wood and the structural diversity that provides habitat for specialised animal and plant species. Special Forest Reserves (Type: MCPFE1_3) allow targeted interventions to promote biodiversity. They are either long-term contractually secured or protected as parts of forests with a reserve character by means of over-municipal protection orders.
