The cantons are obliged, in accordance with federal legislation on forest and hydraulic engineering, to record the natural hazards and to take them into account in spatially effective activities. For this purpose, hazard maps or hazard warning cards must be drawn up in cooperation with the municipalities. Hazard warning cards are less meaningful than hazard maps and represent the flood hazard outside the settlement areas. The hazard warning cards were revised for the entire canton area in 2022 and adapted to the hazard maps. In addition to the usual indication areas for an extreme flood (EHQ), an intensity map for the annual HQ100 was also created. The “Hazard Information Card HQ100” distinguishes the three intensity levels weak, medium and strong, so that rough information about the water depth or flow speed can be made. The “Hazard Information Card EHQ” makes no statement about the intensity, but merely distinguishes between “affected” and “not affected”. The hazard warning cards must also be implemented by the municipalities in zoning and utilisation planning and have to be taken into account in construction projects.
