Natural hazard maps show which settlement areas are threatened by floods, avalanches, slides or rock falls. They contain detailed information on the causes, processes, spatial expansion, intensity and probability of occurrence of natural hazards and thus serve as a reason for the planning of direction and use as well as for the design of protective measures. (BAFU, 2014)
