The Cold Air System subplan is one of three sub-plans (see subplan Heat Reduction and Relief System) which together form the heat reduction plan. The Cold Air System subplan depicts Zurich’s still largely functioning cold air system. The aim is to maintain and protect the cold air system. In particular, the core areas of the city depend on the influx of cooler air from the slopes of the surrounding elevations. With regard to the importance for the nightly cooling effect, it is important to consider the specific wind systems in planning.
NOTE: In the context of STRB No. 178/2020, the technical planning heat reduction including sub-plans replaces the planning bases and recommendations adopted in the framework of the CLAZ 2011 with STRB No 1384/2011.
**Purpose**: The Cold Air System subplan presents all the important structures necessary for the long-term functioning of the air exchange processes and must be taken into account in planning. Recommendations for climate-optimised planning and construction can be derived. The sub-plan is aimed at both public authorities and private actors. Reference scale is 1:15 000.
