Mobility is vital for wildlife. It enables the genetic exchange between the different populations and the seasonal migrations of individual populations into their habitats or between disjunct partial habitats. Habitats for wild animals are narrower and more frequently fragmented. In particular, busy roads, railway routes and channeled rivers represent almost insurmountable barriers for many wildlife. This cuts habitats of local populations and prevents traditional long-distance changes. In order to survive, many species depend on a connection and exchange with other populations. The wild animal corridors of regional importance, which have been eliminated in the indicative plan, refer to corridors which aim to improve the state and ensure continuity at regional level. The canton and municipalities shall take into account the wildlife corridors identified in the indicative plan when carrying out their tasks. For all areas with wild animal passages, the continuity of the relevant animal groups shall be ensured. Intact corridors are to be maintained. The wild animal corridors of regional importance, which were eliminated in the Cantonal Indicative Plan 2015, are available as a planning tool.
