Dataset description
This dataset contains daily data trackers for the COVID-19 pandemic, aggregated by month and starting 18.3.20. The first release of COVID-19 data on this platform was on 1.6.20. Please note this frequency of this release is changing from weekly to monthly and will be published on the first Friday of each month.
The data is accurate as at 8.00 a.m. on Friday 03.03.23. Some narrative for the data covering the latest period is provided here below:
__Discontinued or Null Data sets__
Please note that data at local authority level from the ONS Covid Infection Survey has not been published since 5.12.22; there are currently too few users from York on the Covid Zoe App to provide a robust local prevalence estimate and the publication of a regional figure for the ‘R’ (reproductive) rate ceased in December 2022.

__Deaths__
Two key sources about deaths from Covid-19 at LA level are ONS data and local registrar data. They are derived from the same source (civil registration data). ONS data is more comprehensive as it includes deaths of York residents which have occurred and been registered outside York. Local registrar data provides a breakdown by age and gender. For both data sources a death from Covid-19 is said to have occurred when Covid-19 has been recorded on the death certificate. The most recently available data is summarised below:
• __ONS Weekly data__: In the most recent period (2023 Week 7: 11.2.23 to 17.2.23) 1 Covid-19 death was recorded as having occurred for CYC residents. In weeks 6 and 5 there had been 2 and 0 deaths respectively. Please note that due to lags in death registration, weekly totals are subject to revision.
• __ONS Cumulative data__: Since the start of the pandemic, for deaths occurring up to 17th February 2023 and registered up to 25th February 2023, 569 Covid-19 deaths were recorded as having occurred for CYC residents (360 in hospital, 155 in care homes, 46 at home/elsewhere and 8 in a hospice). The cumulative number of deaths per 100,000 of population in York is 269 which is lower than the national average of 330.

• __Age / Gender breakdown (using registrar data)__: The average age of the CYC residents who died was 81.4, with an age range of 30-104. 77% of the CYC residents who died were aged 75+. 50% of the CYC residents who died were male.
