Location of sites where air quality monitoring has been undertaken and the annual mean concentration for a range of pollutants has been calculated by Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council. The Council has a duty under the Environment Act 1995 to review and assess air quality within it's borough. In order to fulfil its obligations, Sandwell Council maintains a network of automatic and non-automatic air quality monitoring sites which measure key air pollutant concentrations. Monitoring is currently undertaken for nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter, sulphur dioxide and ozone. The monitoring data presented has been fully ratified and annual mean concentrations compared to the National Air Quality Objectives in order to determine exceedances. Where available, annual mean concentrations are presented for previous years.
