The UK produces a breakdown of greenhouse gas emissions by Local Authority area as a subset of its annual inventory of greenhouse gas emissions. The nationally available data sets begin in 2005. Prior to the 2005 to 2020 publication the statistics covered emissions of carbon dioxide only.
The main data sources are the UK National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory and the BEIS National Statistics of energy consumption for local authority areas. Those emissions excluded are aviation, shipping and military transport for which there is no obvious basis for allocation to local areas.
Revision on 5 August 2021 to fix formatting error where totals were split over multiple rows in dataset of local authority emissions. The actual figures remain the same.
