Dataset description

Ramsar sites are wetlands of international importance designated under the Ramsar Convention. This dataset contains basic site details for all designated Ramsar sites within the UK and its Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies. This contains the following columns. SITECODE NAME STATUS (always classified/designated) COUNTRY - Overseas Territory sites have code OT. UK Countries have first letter of name eg S for Scotland. AREA_GIS SITE_LENGTH LOCAL_AUTHORITY DESIG_DATE - date designated as Ramsar LATITUDE LONGITUDE X_COORDINATE - eastings based on GB grid Y_COORDINATE - northings based on GB grid GRID_REF ALTITUDE_MIN (in meters) ALTITUDE_MAX ALTITUDE_MEAN OVERVIEW JUSTIFICATION LOCATION - discription of location ECO_FEATURES - ecological features of interest on the site FLORA - noteworthy flora FAUNA - noteworthy fauna RESEARCH EDUCATION RECREATION REFERENCES EXTENSION_DATE - date site extended where applicable.
