The habitat map of the the Natura 2000 site « Baie de Morlaix» is a composite of five different habitat map layers that were merged together and harmonised. The five original maps were made according to various mapping strategies, using different sets of tools and interpretation methods, at different scales.
Several coverage tools were used for the subtidal and tidal zones: bathymetric lidar from 2008, aerial photography (“Ortholittorale 2000”), acoustic tools such as multibeam echosounder, side scan sonar and Roxann acoustic ground detection system. Ground truth was obtained with underwater video, sediment and fauna grab samples and visual identification by foot using GPS. Field surveys were conducted between 2008-2013.
Gaps were filled either by interpolation or extrapolation when feasible with the help of depth data from soundings or satellite imagery in shallow waters.
