John's Creek Valley: a mountainous catchment for long-term interdisciplinary human-environment system research in Upper Styria (Austria)

For monitoring complex meteorological-hydrological conditions in the area of the Johnsbachtal, a hydroclimatological monitoring network was installed and described in detail in this thesis. One of the characteristics of the installed stations is the coverage of many altitude ranges and the recording of the slope in the form of meteorological variables, caused by the complex topographic conditions in the alpine area. The hydroclimatological monitoring network in the Johnsbachtal is highly dependent on project financing. The research activities within the catchment area, which include the disciplines of hydrology, climatology, hydrogeology and geomorphology, the collected hydroclimatological data, as well as the preliminary results, will be presented. In a broader sense, the spatial distribution of the meteorological and hydrological variables calculated for the test area using the hydrometeorological model AMUNDSEN is presented.
