According to the Forest Act, a noble habitat is an area where the likelihood of the occurrence of narrowly adapted, endangered, vulnerable or rare species is high. In a forest owned by a legal person in public law, the protection of a precious habitat shall be organised by the owner of the land or his or her authorised representative, in the state forest pursuant to the procedure established by a regulation of the minister responsible for the area. The database of key habitats in the Estonian Environmental Register provides an overview of key habitats in Estonia.
The data is managed in the Estonian Nature Information System (EELIS).
