A climateological gridded dataset (SMHI Gridded Climatology — SMHIGridClim) has been developed for the years 1961-2018. Data covers the Nordic countries with a horizontal resolution of 2.5 km. The variables developed are air temperature and relative humidity at 2 m altitude with a resolution of1.3 or 6 hours depending on the time period, as well as daily dissolved min and maximum temperature, precipitation and snow depth. The dataset is developed with optimal interpolation of station data through the gridpp analysis tool, which is an openly available software from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
Observations for the analysis have been obtained from the Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish
meteorological Institutes, and ECMWF.
Explanations of parameter names (under https://opendata-download-metanalys.smhi.se/gridclim/):
— Hurs: Relative humidity 2 metres above ground (18-18 UTC)
PR: Precipitation (06-06 UTC)
SND: Snow depth (06 UTC)
— taken: Average air temperature 2 metres above ground (18-18 UTC)
— tasmax: Maximum air temperature 2 metres above ground (18-18 UTC)
— tasmin: Minimum air temperature 2 m above ground (18-18 UTC)
