Low mountain forest is defined as tree-clad areas within the mountain border, with a tree height between 2-5 meters and a canopy cover of at least 10 per cent.
The layer shows where low-grown mountain forests are located within the mountain border. The method is based on laser data and is not rated in satellite image. This means that the layer can contain both mountain birch and mountain coniferous forests, vide bushes and shrubs/trees on the “very old hyggen” which is 2-5 meters high with 10 % crown cover. The area in the mountain border also contains valleys and other lowland lands, which means that low forest on more productive land comes with, e.g. the hyggen.
