Areas in accordance with the Remediation of Contaminated Sites Act (ALSAG). Old deposits (old landfills) and old sites (former factories) reported by the provincial governor, which may be contaminated before 1989, are identified by the Federal Minister as contaminated sites in need of protection and remediation in the AltlastenVO after a risk assessment has been carried out and a significant risk to the environment and health has been identified (after assessment by the Federal Environment Agency). The assessment of the urgency of necessary remedial measures is differentiated by three priority classes. A classification in priority class 1 means the highest urgency of remedial measures. After confirmation of the remediation success, the data on the contaminated site will be updated by the Federal Environment Agency and marked by the Federal Minister as "remediated or secured contaminated site" in the Remediation Ordinance.
