A3 Forest management plan

The area of the Gesäuseberge between Admont and Hieflau, St.Gallen and Johnsbach has been shaped by people for centuries by colonization, forestry and hunting, the uplifting of alpine pastures by farmers entitled to servits and ultimately by tourism. The careful and sustainable management and use of forests in the so-called Ennsknie has ultimately led to this area being designated as a national park. It is now the task of the responsible area managers to treat the forests in the Gesäuse in such a way that they themselves can develop their natural dynamics, natural succession, mixture and population development according to the predetermined formative location factors climate, geology and geomorphology ultimately without the further involvement of the farming man. The present forest management plan provides the instrument for this.
