Geocaching in the Gesäuse National Park is a transactional activity in the field of tension between visitor management and nature conservation

The master's thesis examines geocaching in the Gesäuse National Park and analyses ecological and socio-spatial challenges. Theoretically, geocaching is discussed as a transactional activity according to Dewey, empirically recorded using GIS data on location, type and use. Results show risks (disturbances, footstep damage) and opportunities (visitor guidance, environmental education). Control approaches such as cache relocation, information offerings and community involvement are proposed. This masters thesis explores geocaching in Gesäuse National Park, analyzing ecological and socio-spatial challenges.
