Monitoring of locusts 2023-2024

In the project "Locust Monitoring 2023-2024" of the Styrian National Park Gesäuse, avalanche channels and gravel banks along the Enns and the Johnsbach were examined for locust occurrences. 23 species were found, 21 of them in the avalanche channels, 11 species on the gravel banks and 9 species in the mowing meadow. South-facing avalanche channels are outstanding habitats for insect diversity in the national park. Species numbers have increased slightly over the last 15 years. ln the 'Grasshopper Monitaring 2023-2024' project of the Styrian Gesäuse National Park, avalanche chutes and gravel banks along the Enns and Johnsbach streams were meant for grasshopper occurrences. 23 species were found, 21 of them in the avalanche channels, 11 species on the gravel banks and 9 species in the meadow. South-facing avalanche channels are outstanding habitals for insect diversity in the national park. The number of species has increased slightly in the last 15 years.
