2022 Climate Action Report.

In 2020, around 73.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent were emitted in Austria. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions were around 6.2% lower than in 1990. Compared to 2019, this is a decrease of 7.7%. The year 2020 was marked by the global coronavirus pandemic, which led to a significant reduction in emissions from the transport sector, energy supply and industry. In total, the non-ETS sectors emitted around 46.5 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent in 2020. Emissions were thus 1.2 million tonnes below the maximum level for 2020. With the current figures, data are available for the entire target period 2013-2020. By falling short of the targets in 2013 - 2016 and in 2020, the targets for the entire period were met.
