MAES/EUNIS Habitat Map 10m

Within the scope of this project, a map of the biotope types of Austria was created. It served as a basis for the designation and identification of the ‘sensitive habitats’, which are used in the context of the evaluation of the exceedance of the critical nitrogen inputs (Critical Loads). Since biotope mapping is not available in all federal states or does not cover the entire federal territory, it was necessary to use and integrate further existing information. As a basis for integrating the different data bases, the classification of habitats according to EUNIS (Davies et al. 2004) is used. All input data were mapped to this classification system. Empirical critical loads are available for the different habitats (United Nations 2010). HAB _ESc _1 _2 - Generalisation of the habitat map of Austria to the MAES Ecosystem Types (Fiala, 2013)
