Im Rahmen des Projekts zur Aktualisierung des österreichischen Moorschutzkatalogs wurden verfügbare Moordaten aus über 100 verschiedenen Quellen zusammengeführt. Das aktualisierte Moorinventar verbessert die Kenntnislage über die Verbreitung, den Zustand und den Handlungsbedarf zum Schutz der Moore Österreichs. Nach aktuellem Wissensstand verfügt Österreich über eine Moorfläche von rund 44.000 Hektar. Das sind rund 0,5 Prozent der Bundesfläche. Rund 61 Prozent der Moore liegen in einem Schutzgebiet. Trotz der intensiven Erforschung der Moore verbleiben noch erhebliche Wissenslücken. Im Bericht werden Methoden dargestellt, wie das Moorinventar in Zukunft weiter vervollständigt und verbessert werden kann.
