Preservation of wood and wood products

The report describes the state of the art of systems for impregnating wood and wood products with wood preservatives. The focus is on the different technologies for the treatment and storage of impregnated wood products as well as a presentation of the chemicals used and the descriptions of the companies that produce impregnated wood products. In addition to the protective effect against wood-damaging organisms, the wood preservatives used also have an environmentally damaging potential. The report therefore describes strategies to avoid the release of wood preservatives into soil, water and air in the impregnation of wood and wood products as well as in the storage of the impregnated goods and chemicals. Corresponding emission reduction measures and a list of the legal framework conditions complement the study.
