Residues from food and beverage production

The production of food, beverages and animal feed in Austria generates an estimated 1.26 million tonnes of predominantly vegetable residues per year. Despite numerous existing prevention and recovery steps, there is still potential to further reduce this waste or improve its treatment. The report provides an overview of the legal framework, estimates the occurrence of residues from these branches of production, describes treatment methods and shows ways to further improve the use of these residues. The Annex contains the substance data sheets of the individual waste types from the food, beverage and feed production sector and a table for the reclassification of food and beverage waste that is treated biologically.
