VAO Monitoring 2019-2021.

Air and deposition testing for persistent organic pollutants (POPs) at high altitude alpine sites – sampling period autumn 2019 to autumn 2021. From 2005 to 2021, the air concentrations and depositions of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were collected in a 16-year monitoring programme at the three Alpine peaks Sonnblick (A), Weißfluhjoch (CH, until 2013) and Zugspitze (D). This report updates the results of the time series for polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/F) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) around the years 2019 to 2021. PCDD/F and PCB depositions in 2019-2021 were comparatively lower than in previous years. The PCDD/F and PCB air concentrations were in the Zugspitze in the years 2019 to 2021 in a similar range as in the years before, at the Hohe Sonnblick the concentrations of PCDD/F increased slightly in recent years, those of PCB significantly.
