Natura 2000 Ecological Network

Spatial database containing information on Natura 2000 Ecological Network areas in the Republic of Croatia. The State Institute for Nature Protection prepared a proposal for the NATURA 2000 ecological network for Croatia based on the analysis of collected data on the distribution of NATURA 2000 species and habitat types in Croatia and supplemented it in 2015 based on the conclusions of the Biogeographical Seminar in the Republic of Croatia. The Natura 2000 ecological network was officially proclaimed the Regulation on the ecological network (OG 124/13) and supplemented by the Regulation on amendments to the Regulation on the ecological network (OG 105/15). The Natura 2000 ecological network contains the boundaries of the Natura 2000 site and the target species and habitats for each Natura 2000 site. Spatial data consists of 743 polygonal conservation areas important for species and habitat types (POVS) and 38 polygonal conservation areas important for birds (POPs). The data is available to all users, through the spatial browser on the Bioportal website (www.bioportal.hr/gis) and through the WMS and WFS web service. Technology used: Java / PostgreSQL / Drupal Legal basis: In accordance with the obligation laid down in Article 196 of the Nature Protection Act (OG 80/13) Croatian Agency for the environment and nature (HAOP), the legal successor of the State Institute for Nature Protection (DZZP) ‘establishes and manages the Nature Protection Information System of the Republic of Croatia, taking into account internationally accepted standards and obligations’. Over the years, the Agency has taken over and regularly maintains certain databases owned by the Ministry of Environment and Energy and has coordinated the development of several thematic databases related to nature protection, some of which are also available online. Target beneficiaries: The general public, the scientific and professional community.
