Protected areas of the Republic of Croatia

The Nature Protection Information System consists of a set of databases, application solutions and web services intended for storing, maintaining and sharing data related to various components of biological and landscape diversity and nature protection in the Republic of Croatia. One such dataset is the Protected Areas of the Republic of Croatia database. Protected areas of the Republic of Croatia – contains data on protected areas in the Republic of Croatia in the categories of protection under the Nature Protection Act: strict reserve, national park, nature park, special reserve, regional park, nature monument, significant landscape, park - forest and monument of park architecture. The data is available to all users, through the spatial browser on the Bioportal website (www.bioportal.hr/gis) and through the WMS and WFS web service. Technology used: Java / PostgreSQL / Drupal Legal basis: In accordance with the obligation laid down in Article 196 of the Nature Protection Act (NN 80/13) the Croatian Agency for the Environment and Nature (HAOP), the legal successor of the State Institute for Nature Protection (DZZP), ‘establishes and manages the Nature Protection Information System of the Republic of Croatia, taking into account internationally accepted standards and obligations’. In addition to the databases that it produces and maintains itself and in cooperation with external associates, over the years the Agency has taken over and regularly maintains certain databases owned by the Ministry of Environment and Energy and has coordinated the development of several thematic databases related to nature protection, some of which are also available online.
