Software providers

Integrated circuit cards, card applications and application manufacturers (software) are defined by the international standard ISO 7816, Identificanion cards – Integrated circuit(s) cards with contacts. The standard was issued in 15 parts. Part 5, ISO/IEC 7816-5:2004, Registration of application providers, defines the registration procedure of application manufacturers (software providers) for smart cards. Each software provider, i.e. the manufacturer of software for "smart" cards, registers in one place in the world, at Danish Standards, Charlottenlund, Denmark, which is responsible for the application of the said international standard and its maintenance (Registration Authority). Software providers are assigned a unique identification number (Registered application provider identifier - RID). The Croatian Standards Institute as a national standardisation body, and at the request of potential providers of software services from the Republic of Croatia, mediates in their registration at the international level.
