Statistikken omfatter alle firmaer som er aktive hele året eller en del af året i alle brancher og sektorer. For hvert enkelt firma findes der oplysninger om blandt andet antal ansatte, investeringer, eksport og import, lønsummer, omsætning og årets resultat. Statistikken integrerer oplysninger fra tre andre erhvervsstatistikker og er baseret på CVR, oplysninger fra Skat og indberetninger fra virksomhederne.
