This visualization is composed of a 3-hourly imagery of RGB Dust products from different geostationary satellites: Meteosat 0 Degree and Meteosat IODC, GOES-16 and GOES-17, Himawari-8.
Every single imagery composing the final product, is generated by assigning red, green and blue to imageries based upon infrared channel data from the following instruments:
- SEVIRI (Meteosat): IR12.0, IR10.8, IR8.7 channels.
- ABI (GOES-16 and GOES-17): IR12.3, IR10.3, IR11.2, IR8.4 channels.
- AHI (Himawari-8): IR12.4, IR10.4, IR11.2, IR8.6 channels.
The Dust product is an RGB (Red, Green, Blue) composite based upon infrared channel. It is designed to monitor the evolution of dust storms during both day and night. However equally useful for discrimination of cloud types (e.g. cloud phase or thin Cirrus detection) and detection of low level moisture. Being based solely on IR channels this product has the same utility both during day and night.
