This metadata refers to a dataset with the population from 906 cities across Europe, with values referring to years between 2007 and 2018. The data on population was obtained from Eurostat, with the city centroids from Urban Audit 2011-2014. Where no data was available from Eurostat, this was supplemented by internet search (Google Public data Tool).
The number of people living in the city affects the need for natural resources, such as drinking water. Therefore, the size of the city population is directly relevant to adaptation planning, e.g. in the context of water scarcity.
