Dataset description

This raster data set combines the terrestrial protected areas from the following data sources: - Nationally designated areas (CDDA) for internal use - version 19, June 2021 - Natura 2000 (vector) - version 2020, July 2021 - Emerald Network data - the Pan-European network of protected sites version 2020, Sept 2021 The internal version of the European inventory of Nationally designated areas (CDDA dataset version 19, 2021) holds information about designated areas and their designation types, which directly or indirectly create protected areas. The data is delivered by the Eionet partnership countries as spatial and tabular information. EEA does not have permission to distribute some or all sites reported by Estonia, Ireland and Türkiye. Natura 2000 is the key instrument to protect biodiversity in the European Union. It is an ecological network of protected areas, set up to ensure the survival of Europe's most valuable species and habitats. Natura 2000 is based on the 1979 Birds Directive and the 1992 Habitats Directive. Please be aware that some Member States have submitted sensitive information that has been filtered out of the Natura 2000 database. The Natura 2000 version used for this dataset covers the reporting in 2020. The Emerald Network is an ecological network made up of Areas of Special Conservation Interest. The objective of the Emerald Network is the long-term survival of the species and habitats. The Emerald Network consists of the Areas of Special Conservation Interest (ASCI) designated under Recommendation No. 16 (1989) and Resolution No. 3 (1996) of the Standing Committee to the Bern Convention. The Emerald version used for this dataset covers the reporting in 2020. IMPORTANT NOTE: Because of the use of the internal CDDA spatial dataset, no spatial maps or other visualizations showing potential location of protected areas may be generated from the PA data set presented here. For spatial representation of the CDDA data please refer to the public versions registered in SDI (https://sdi.eea.europa.eu/catalogue/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/c0c9663b-ea1c-4068-b8b5-533f40539bdf).

Questions before production use

Practical answers on evaluation, licensing, freshness, versioning and support.

api.store is built and operated by Apitalks s.r.o. Company details and a direct contact path are linked in the footer for vendor checks and procurement review.
Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
