Dataset description

Overview This dataset includes the daily Phytoplankton Functional Types (PFTs) data on a Pan-Arctic scale from 2003 to 2024 (April to August). The data were produced by the Takuvik International Research Laboratory (Université Laval and CNRS, Québec, Canada) using the algorithm developed by Orkney et al. (2020), explained in detail in the “Supplemental Material” section of the article. The original algorithm was written in the R programming language and was provided by its author. It has been optimised for faster performance.  Variables: Phytoplankton Functional Types (PFTs)  Temporal resolutions: daily product.  Spatial resolutions: 4 km   To distinguish major phytoplankton functional types, the algorithm uses MODIS-Aqua ocean colour reflectance data as input.  The original algorithm was developed and calibrated for the Labrador and Barents Seas, and additional work of validation is required when applying it to other Arctic regions. Organization There are 22 zipped files, one per year for the period 2003-2024, from April to August. Each zip file contains 154 daily data files in .parquet format, except for 2022, which contains 139 daily data files because there is no input MODIS-Aqua reflectance data between 1 April and 15 April. Name convention Filename: DATE.parquet DATE in format yyyymmdd yyyy = Four-digit year (e.g, 2003) mm = Two-digit month from 04 (April) to 08 (August) dd = Two-digit day, from 01 to 31 Output file Each daily parquet file contains:  Column Name Type Description  Units date DATE The date of observation  - year DOUBLE  The year of observation  - longitude DOUBLE The longitude decimal degrees  latitude DOUBLE The latitude  decimal degrees  pixel_class VARCHAR The pixel classification  - chlorophyll_guesses DOUBLE Chlorophyll-a concentration estimation  mg/m3 rrs_412 DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 412 nm  sr-1  rrs_443 DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 443 nm  sr-1 rrs_469  DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 469 nm  sr-1 rrs_488  DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 488 nm  sr-1 rrs_531 DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 531 nm  sr-1 rrs_547 DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 547 nm  sr-1 rrs_555 DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 555 nm  sr-1 rrs_645  DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 645 nm  sr-1 rrs_667  DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 667 nm  sr-1 rrs_678 DOUBLE Remote sensing reflectance at 678 nm  sr-1    The pixel classification (pixel_class) is as follows: coccolithophores sediment cdom phaeocystis ocean diatoms

Questions before production use

Practical answers on evaluation, licensing, freshness, versioning and support.

api.store is built and operated by Apitalks s.r.o. Company details and a direct contact path are linked in the footer for vendor checks and procurement review.
Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
