Supplementary material for: Paleo extreme waves in the North Atlantic: geological evidence from Sal Island, Cape Verde Archipelago.

This repository contains the data and scripts used in the manuscript "Paleo extreme waves in the North Atlantic: geological evidence from Sal Island, Cape Verde Archipelago" (A. Rovere et al., currently under review; preprint available at [link]). The data are organized into the following folders: Boulders: Excel file with boulder parameters derived from Structure-from-Motion photogrammetry, including flow threshold calculations based on Nandasena et al. (2022), and supporting field photographs. Boundary_conditions: Wave data from the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (WAVeReanalYSis) and topographic transects used in the XBeach simulations. Includes a Jupyter notebook to match wave data with satellite imagery (imagery not included). Flow_results: XBeach model outputs and scripts to compare modeled flow with empirical results. Includes the code that generates the heatmap shown in Figure 4 of the manuscript. GIS_Files: Vector files (shapefiles) used to create maps of wave ingression, boulder positions, whitewater lines, and other geomorphological features. XBeach_models: Model setup files and pre/post-processing scripts used to reproduce simulation results. XBeach must be downloaded separately from https://oss.deltares.nl/web/xbeach/downloads.
