Making use of cultural environment information - making and recording cultural environment reports in the regions of Päijät-Häme and Kainuu

The project "Digitising Cultural Environment Information and Improving Accessibility in Municipal Activities" was carried out in cooperation between the Lahti Museums and the Kainuu Museum from 1 January 2023 to 31 August 2024 with the support of the Ministry of Finance's digital promotion grant for municipalities. The project aimed to improve and harmonise the quality of information produced and stored in surveys of the built cultural environment. In both counties, the project created an opportunity for a work process in which the reports on the built cultural environment commissioned by the municipalities and the information generated in the report will be stored in the Collecte collection management and cultural environment system used by the regional museums in charge. The information is available in the system for the land use, land use planning and permit authorities of the municipalities in the area, and it is also available through the wfs spatial data interface. Instructions and checklists drawn up to support the work process to be implemented during the project have been published in this material. Checklists and instructions can be used by all regional museums and municipalities, where applicable. For the authors of cultural environment surveys, guidelines for exemplary survey types and their storage may also serve as examples of information to be taken into account and updated in other municipalities in connection with the survey. Detailed cataloguing guidelines can also be applied appropriately to the definition of information content in other cultural environment systems used by museums.
