Nature conservation and wilderness areas

The Nature Conservation and Wilderness Areas dataset includes nature conservation areas established in state-owned areas under the Nature Conservation Act or by decree and wilderness areas established in wilderness areas. In addition, under the Nature Conservation Act, the material includes private nature conservation areas (YSAs), temporary sanctuary areas (MRAs), protected habitats (LTAs) established by the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (formerly the Provincial Governments), and especially the locations of protected species (ERAs). As of 1 September 2014, the material has been produced in its entirety in Metsähallitus' SATJ system. The changes are updated to the material every night, including download packages and interface services. There is also a separate INSPIRE data product that is updated twice a year. The data is included in SYKE's open data (CC BY 4.0). An INSPIRE data product has been published from the data. Purpose: Management of information on nature reserves. Further information: https://geoportal.ympäristö.fi/meta/julkinen/dokumentit/Luonnonsuojelujaeramaaalueet.pdf The nature protected areas and wilderness reserves dataset includes nationally designated protected areas established on state owned land in accordance with the Nature Conservation Act or Nature Conservation Decree, and areas established on private lands with a decision from the local Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY-Centres). The dataset includes also extensive wilderness areas which are maintained in natural state and are at least slightly naturally managed. The data on reserves on State-owned lands is produced by Metsähallitus. Protected sites established on private lands are digitized in ELY-Centres (by the responsibility area for Environment and natural resources). This Syke’s dataset can be used according to open data license (CC BY 4.0). INSPIRE compatible dataset has been published.
