Dataset description

**[FI]** Satelliitti-instrumenttien havainnoista seurataan veden sameutta pilvettömiltä alueilta sulan veden aikana Suomen merialueilta ja järviltä. Sameus tulkitaan satelliitti-instrumenttien havainnoista Suomen merialueilta ja järvistä pilvettömiltä alueilta. Sameushavainnoissa näkyy usein luonnollista vaihtelua, kuten jokien rannikkovesiin tuoma maaperä tai voimakkaiden tuulien aiheuttama resuspensio, joka nostaa sameaa vettä pohjasta pintaan. Tulkinta perustuu EUn Copernicus-ohjelman Sentinel-2-sarjan MSIn (Multi-spectral Instrument) havaintoihin vuodesta 2016 lähtien. Tulkinta tehdään 60 metrin tarkkuudella. Vastaava sameustulkinta tehdään myös NASAn Landsat-8/9 -satelliitien OLI/OLI-2 -instrumentien aineistoista (erillinen metadata). Sameuden tulkinta perustuu satelliitti-instrumentin havaitsemaan vesialueelta tulevan auringon säteilyn heijastukseen, joka on suurempi sameilla vesialueilla kuin kirkkailla alueilla. Sameuden tulkinta tehdään mallilla, joka perustuu neuroverkkoon (Case-2 Regional CoastColour), (Brockmann et al. 2016; Doerffer et a. 2007; 2008a; 2008b). Malli on avoimesti saatavilla SNAP-ohjelmiston kautta. Aineisto kuuluu SYKEn avoimiin aineistoihin (CC BY 4.0). *** **[EN]** Satellite observations are used to monitor turbidity of water from cloudless regions during meltwater from Finnish sea areas and lakes. Turbidity is interpreted satellite instrument observations from the sea areas and lakes in Finland in cloudless periods and regions. Turbidity maps often show natural variation, such as soil brought into the coastal waters by rivers or resuspension caused by strong winds, which raises more turbid water from the bottom to the surface. The interpretation is based on the MSI (Multi-spectral Instrument) of the Sentinel-2 series of the EU Copernicus program (also OLI/OLI-2 instruments of the NASA Landsat-8/9 satellites, see separate metadata) starting from year 2016. The interpretation is made with an accuracy of 60 m. The turbidity interpretation is based on the reflection of solar radiation from the water area detected by the satellite instrument, which is higher in turbid water areas than the water reflection in bright areas. The turbidity estimation is done with a model based on a neural network (Case-2 Regional CoastColour), (Brockmann et al. 2016; Doerffer, et al. 2007; 2008a; 2008b). The model is openly available through SNAP software. In Syke's data, however, the final result of the model has been adapted to correspond to the optical properties of the Finnish coast and lake areas. The adaptation is based on field campaigns and station sampling (as exemplified e.g. in Attila et al., 2013). *** ## Viitteet / References Attila, J., Koponen, S., Kallio, K., Lindfors, A., Kaitala, S., & Ylöstalo, P. Vuodesta 2016 eteenpäin koostuva aineisto Suomen merialueilta ja järviltä. Prosessointihistoria: Sameus on tulkittu Sentinel-2 MSI-satelliitti-instrumentin aineistoilta. Alkuperäinen satelliittidata on ladattu Euroopan avaruusjärjestön (ESA) latauspalveluista. Sykessä niistä on laskettu sameustulkinnat käyttäen C2RCC-mallia (Case-2 Regional CoastColour). *** **[EN]** Satellite observations are used to monitor turbidity from years 2016- for the Finnish sea areas and lakes. Processing history: The Sentinel-2 MSI data have been received from ESA service. The dataset has been processed to turbidity values in Syke using the C2RCC algorithm (Case-2 Regional CoastColour), which includes atmospheric correction.

Questions before production use

Practical answers on evaluation, licensing, freshness, versioning and support.

api.store is built and operated by Apitalks s.r.o. Company details and a direct contact path are linked in the footer for vendor checks and procurement review.
Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
