Dataset description

Cerema data on the potential of renewable thermal energy per building in Metropolitan France: solar thermal, geothermal, aerothermal, wood-energy and heat/cold networks. With the support of ADEME and DGEC, Cerema is leading the project "[BatEnR](https://networks-heat.cerema.fr/documentary space/batenr)" to characterise, at national level but at the level of each building, the development potential of thermal renewable energy (thermal RES).\ Following on from the [EnRezo] project (https://networks-heat.cerema.fr/documentary space/enrezo), the objective of which is to identify the development potential of heating and cooling networks, the BatEnR project, which began in early 2025, aims to determine the potential of renewable thermal energy solutions at the scale of each residential and tertiary building in France: heating network, cooling network, geothermal on aquifers, geothermal on probes, solar thermal, wood-energy and aerothermal PAC (heating/air conditioning).\ For this purpose, the national building database (BDNB), published by the CSTB, was used and enriched with indicators relating to thermal RES potentials, and relevance criteria were calculated. The data covers the territory of metropolitan France. It is available for download by department. The attached excel file serves as a metadata to describe the contents of each field. <br /> **Updated on 13/02/2026** Missing buildings in some department files - correction of departments 76, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87 and 88.

Questions before production use

Practical answers on evaluation, licensing, freshness, versioning and support.

Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
