Dataset description

Mapping changes in public lighting practice at the municipal level in France since 2014. Using VIIRS night-time satellite data acquired between 2014 and 2024, an algorithm was designed to detect changes in night-time lighting practices in the heart of the night. Each French municipality is assigned one or more classes: * Detection of probable total extinction * Detection of probable partial extinction or major renovation of the light park * Abandonment of a policy of extinction * No change in practice detected * Potential extension of the light park * Commune not detectable by satellite ('excluding light task') For each municipality, the dates suspected of change of practice are issued as well as a curve of evolution of the nocturnal radiance seen by satellite between 2014 and 2024. This map was produced as part of the Sérénos project (Road Safety, Nocturnal Lighting and Satellite Observation) for the Delegation for Road Safety. Methodological developments have been consolidated in partnership with DarkSkyLab. \ The data shall be supplied with a technical report (\_technique \_cartographie \_extinctions.pdf) and a webgis shall be made available for viewing: [Dashboard](https://cartagene.cerema.fr/portal/apps/dashboards/e811c1f42ea846a68dedcf94946dc5a3)[![](https://cerema.box.com/shared/static/rlf15dcg1vtf10ffnsjzplnwl42pyxjj.png)](https://framaforms.org/form-de-contribution-a-la-cartographie-nationale-des-extinctions-de-leclairage-public) A form to participate in the continuous improvement of the method is available to users who may encounter an inconsistency in their field experience: [Contribution form to the national mapping of lighting extinctions | Framaforms.org](https://framaforms.org/form-de-contribution-a-la-cartographie-nationale-des-extinctions-de-leclairage-public) Should you have any queries relating to this data, please do not hesitate to contact us: <satellite@cerema.fr>

Questions before production use

Practical answers on evaluation, licensing, freshness, versioning and support.

api.store is built and operated by Apitalks s.r.o. Company details and a direct contact path are linked in the footer for vendor checks and procurement review.
Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
