Dataset description

From the 1970s, the Ministry of Cultural Affairs supported events celebrating illustrious characters or events in the history of France. A delegation to national celebrations was created in 1974 at the instigation of the Minister of Cultural Affairs Maurice Druon. First reporting to the French Association for National Celebrations, the delegation was attached to the Directorate of the Archives of France in 1979. The task of establishing and leading the annual celebrations (then "commemorations") was assigned to a "High Committee of National Commemorations" in 1999. The commemoration of Charles Maurras in the commemorations in 2018 provoked controversy, as a result of which the High Committee resigned. Since 2022, the commemorations are attached to the Institut de France, via the France Mémoire service. Until the early 1980s, the delegation of national celebrations supported initiatives by institutions and communities (exhibitions, symposia, concerts, editions of books and stamps), notably through grants. A leaflet listing the celebrations is distributed for the year 1985. From 1986 to 2018, an annual collection is published under the direction of the Directorate of the Archives of France and then the interministerial department of the Archives of France. These books contain a list of events and celebrities celebrated, accompanied by written articles, as well as a list of anniversaries reported for information purposes. The dataset made available lists the dates ‘officially’ celebrated, from the following sources: * 1970 to 1984: no "official list"; certain events are sufficiently significant to be mentioned in the annual activity reports of the Directorate of Archives of France, and to be included in the files submitted to the National Archives (payment 20000426). The celebrations of this period are therefore not exhaustive but have nevertheless been taken into account in the dataset; * 1985 : leaflet published by the Directorate for Archives of France; * 1986 to 2018: summaries of the collections published each year. The lists of anniversaries given for information purposes have not been retained. The works can be consulted in PDF in the depths of the archive.org site (see _commentary _ column) and partly on FranceArchives for the period 1999-2008 ([History pages](https://francearchives.gouv.fr/en/section/44276)); * 2022 to 2025: official lists distributed by [France Mémoire](https://www.france-mémoire.fr/). The dataset consists of the following fields: * year \_commemoration: the year in which the event was celebrated (according to the sources); * Title: title of the event (according to sources); * year \_evenement: year of the event celebrated (according to sources); * \_ themecommemoration: the theme of the event to be celebrated, if any (according to the sources); * Individual: identity of the individual celebrated with his Wikidata identifier. Potentially multivalued field, with | separator (personal addition); * indexation: thematic indexing of the event. Potentially multivalued field, with | separator (personal addition); * \_evenement type: indexing the type of event (birth, death, event, creation) (personal addition); * \_dataset source: source of information (personal addition); * comment: possible link to the online resource (personal addition). <br /> From the file celebrations\_France\_1970-2026.csv, adding a keyword "woman" (column *indexation*)

Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
