Main characteristics of registered victims and defendants for offences clarified by the national police and gendarmerie

**In order to promote open data on crime and insecurity,****[Ministerial Statistical Service for Internal Security (SSMSI)](https://www.interieur.gouv.fr/Interstats/Le-SSMSI/A-propos-du-SSMSI)****provides two new datasets, one on victims and the other on respondents for the main crime indicators recorded by the national police and gendarmerie since 2016. These datasets make it possible to go further than the information hitherto disseminated to the general public on this subject by making available information by sex and age, and making it possible to break down people according to whether they are French or foreign nationals for each of the indicators of delinquency made reliable by the SSMSI.** **Currently, 18 indicators are disseminated, from the statistical databases of victims registered by the national police and gendarmerie and defendants for offences clarified by the national police and gendarmerie (cf.** **[SSMSI, 2025](https://www.interieur.gouv.fr/content/download/138875/1096655/file/SSMSI-BA2024.pdf)).** **These datasets are intended to be enriched as other indicators become more reliable.
