Dataset description

The National Archives maintains a collection of nearly 400 French allophone periodicals (in foreign language) distributed in France, mainly in the interwar period. This collection (not exhaustive of the titles potentially existing) comes from the offices of the Directorate of the General Security (Ministry of the Interior) in charge of the control and surveillance of the press. Many of these periodicals circulated only a few issues before being banned by order of the Ministry of the Interior. Any copies present in archival files are therefore rare, since titles have often not been legally deposited with the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The inventory describing all the files of the offices of the Directorate of General Security (Ministry of the Interior) responsible for monitoring and supervising the press is [online](https://www.siv.archives-nationales.culture.gouv.fr/siv/IR/FRAN_IR_061535) on the National Archives’ documentary portal. This dataset lists, by title, the foreign-language periodicals printed in France controlled by the Ministry of the Interior, whether it is a simple surveillance (files opened by the General Control of Administrative Police Services) or a control that may lead to the prohibition (files opened by the office responsible for monitoring the press). This list was created to facilitate multi-criteria research and the possibility of comparison with other corpuses (in particular the catalogue of the Bibliothèque nationale de France). The dataset contains the following fields: * Title of periodical * Language * Place of publication * Date of creation * Date of inspection (by the Ministry of the Interior) * Prohibition: yes/no * Date of prohibition * AN copies: number of copies kept in the file at the National Archives * Numbers: Numbers and dates of copies kept in the National Archives * Volume of the file: number of sheets in the file at the National Archives * AN rating: reference(s) of the file(s) to the National Archives * SLV URL: url link to the descriptive notice on the documentary portal of the National Archives * BNF: url link to the descriptive notice in the catalogue of the Bibliothèque nationale de France * Gallica URL: url link to the scanned version on Gallica if applicable * Geo point: geographical coordinates of the place of publication

Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
