Dataset description

The [National Archives] (https://www.archives-nationales.culture.gouv.fr/) have kept the archives of the Court of Cassation since its creation in 1790, including the procedural files produced by the chambers and sections in civil and criminal matters. In the absence of a relevant access key to these files, classified according to the **date of the decision** of the Court of Cassation, any thematic or geographical research is made complex. It is necessary to rely on the**registration of appeals** drawn up by the registries, kept in the registers. The National Archives digitized these registers and made them available online until 1924. To further facilitate the identification of cases and access to procedural files, some of these registers have been the subject of a [collaborative indexing project] (https://girophares.archives-nationales.culture.gouv.fr/dans-les-archives-de-la-court-de-cass), hosted on the Girophares platform. This project allowed the fine indexation of all **appeals filed before the Criminal Registry** of the Court of Cassation** between 1871 and 1889**, i.e. 29,030 cases. In the long term, the same data will be processed for the period 1890-1910, before any extension to appeals brought before the civil registry. In detail, this dataset presents, for each appeal: * A unique identifier (subsequent addition to the National Archives); * Appeal number (continuous series from 1 to n for each calendar year); * The names of the parties; * The date of registration of the appeal (format in full and standardised format allowing classification by date); * The court which delivered the judgment under appeal; * The date of the judgment under appeal (format in full and standardised format allowing classification by date); * The courts and dates of any other judgments challenged by the same appeal; * Criminal qualification(s); * The sentence(s) handed down; * The decision(s) of the Criminal Division of the Court of Cassation; * The referring court, if any; * The date of the decision of the Court of Cassation (format in full and standardised format allowing classification by date); * The department or territory to which the court which delivered the judgment under appeal is attached (later added Archives nationales); * The capital of this department or territory (subsequent addition to the National Archives); * The geographical coordinates of this capital (subsequent addition to the National Archives); * The **list of the procedural file** corresponding to the appeal in question, kept in the National Archives (subsequent addition National Archives).

Yes. Selected APIs include a free API quota, so your team can validate coverage, freshness, response shape and workflow fit before asking for a production plan.
Often yes, but usage rights depend on the source license and dataset. We surface source, license and update metadata where available, and can help review terms before a production integration.
Maintained APIs include update metadata where available. For production integrations, we can add history, monitoring and push updates so changes are easier to detect and act on.
Production APIs can add SLA, stable identifiers, versioning support, history, push updates and direct support around the data your product or AI workflow depends on.
