Der WMS (Web Map Service) ist eine standardisierte Schnittstelle zur Bereitstellung von Kartenausschnitten im Rasterformat. An einen WMS können mit verschiedenen Operationen (siehe Abschnitt Fachinformationen) Anfragen versendet werden. Üblicherweise übernimmt dies ein Geoinformationssystem, in welches die URL des WMS eingebunden wird. Der WMS-Dienst Baupotentiale zeigt die Bau-, Anbau- und Aufstockungspotentiale der kreisangehörigen Kommunen des Kreises Kleve welche mit neu erstellten FME-Workbench’s ermittelt wurden. Im beplanten Bereich wurden die Informationen aus dem WFS-Dienst der vollvektoriellen xplanungskonformen Planungsdaten der Kommune entnommen. Dort, wo keine vollvektoriellen Daten vorlagen, wurden auch keine Potentiale erzeugt. Im nicht beplanten Bereich wurden die Potentiale nach den Vorschriften des §34 BauGB verallgemeinert erzeugt.
