Die Gewässerstationierungskarte (GSK) mit den zugehörigen Verzeichnissen bildet die Grundlage für eine bundesweit abgestimmte Systematik für die Zuweisung von Daten und Informationen zu Fließgewässern, stehenden Gewässern und deren Einzugsgebiete. Sie basiert auf den Regelungen der "Richtlinie für die Gebiets- und Gewässerverschlüsselung" der Länderarbeitsgemeinschaft Wasser (LAWA) aus dem Jahre 2005. Bei der Gewässerstationierungskarte des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen handelt es sich nicht um ein amtliches Kartenwerk, sondern um eine landesweite fachliche Arbeits- und Planungsgrundlage. Sie wird in Form von Auflagen fortgeschrieben.Bei der GSK3E mit Auflage 30.11.2019 handelt es sich um die Fortschreibung der GSK3C mit Auflage vom 30.11.2010
