Das Landesamt für Natur, Umwelt und Klima Nordrhein-Westfalen (LANUK NRW) betreibt im Fachinformationssystem Energieatlas NRW das Solarkataster NRW. Seit Dezember 2020 sind dort für ganz Nordrhein-Westfalen die Freiflächen-Potenziale für Photovoltaik auf den nach Erneuerbare Energien Gesetz vergüteten Flächen veröffentlicht. Das Solarkataster NRW wurde auf der Grundlage von landesweit verfügbaren, hochaufgelösten Laserscandaten des Landes NRW und Strahlungsdaten des Deutschen Wetterdienstes erstellt. Weitere Informationen zum Projekt sind im Solarkataster unter https://www.solarkataster.nrw.de zusammengestellt . Dieser Datensatz enthält alle für die Errichtung von Freiflächen-Photovoltaikanlagen geeigneten Flächen in NRW, die nach dem Erneuerbare Energien Gesetz 2021 (EEG ) vergütet werden. Es sind Attribute wie beispielsweise die geeignete Flächengröße, die nutzbare Modulfläche, die installierbare Leistung sowie der potenzielle Stromertrag zu jeder Potenzialfläche enthalten. Die Attribute werden in der dem Datensatz beigefügten PDF erklärt. Die Flächenkulisse wird im Jahr 2023 hinsichtlich der neuen Vorgaben nach dem EEG 2023 aktualisiert werden.
